The Big Lebowski

Celebrate a Smith tradition with our annual screening of The Big Lebowski! Join us on March 6th (Day of the Dude!) for this beloved cult classic, which has inspired a pseudo-religion and countless quotable moments.

Ultimate L.A. slacker Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire of the same name, seeks restitution for a rug ruined by debt collectors, enlisting his bowling buddies to help while trying to find the millionaire’s missing wife. A star-studded cast, led by Jeff Bridges, brings this outlandish tale to life, making it a must-see on the big screen.

SATURDAY

Spring Fever Handmade Market
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Chamberlain Acres Garden Center, Elmira

The Handmade Markets are a series of one-day seasonal shopping venues to connect the community with local makers and artists. The first pop-up holiday market was held in December of 2015 in the Chamberlain Acres gift shop with 3 local artists. At the time, opportunities for fine artisans to showcase and sell their work in Elmira were extremely rare. The tremendous support for that first pop-up encouraged us to launch semi-annual handmade markets in late winter and fall which support about 20 local makers via a juried application.

Women’s Pint Out

Tilted Paradise | The ARTS Council’s Fashion Show
7:00 PM
Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium

The event, themed Tilted Paradise, is a dance, from the runway to the floor. Your hostess with the mostest, Destiny La Vibe, will MC the show with enough sass to bring the house down. DJ Mark S, our area’s most-loved movement maker will keep the tracks spinning for our first-ever After Party.

7:00pm: Doors Open, Cocktail Social
7:30pm: The Show, Paradise Reimagined on the Runway
9:15pm: After Party and Dance

What to wear?
Paradise with a twist! This is your chance to explore the unexpected. Interpretative cocktail or formal attire welcome. Think glamour that’s slightly off-balance: asymmetry, drape, unexpected details. A bold accessory or statement shoe will fit the bill.

PLUS

Workers Local 139 - CMN Fundraiser & Tap Takeover at Patrick's, Corning Rotary Club Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, Downtown Ithaca Chili Cookoff, Rekt Brew Fest at the Arnot Mall, Pub Crawl Night on Corning’s Market Street with The Caledonian Highlanders, a NASCAR viewing party, comedy, local theater, and wouldn’t you know it—live music, like always!

I Forgot a Season Last Week: DISEASE SEASON

As your calendar proprietor, I must admit that this winter has been very different for me as a first-time mom. I now have officially been (and will continue to be) humbled by Disease Season ever since my kiddo started daycare. I knew this season existed as I watched friends’ families succumb week after week to illness after illness. But until you experience it firsthand, you have no clue. Yes, Disease Season lasts from the moment your kiddo is dropped into a group of other kiddos (daycare, school, etc.) and lasts until they go off to college? Maybe even longer than that?? Guess I’m going to be keeping Zicam in business single-handedly for the next several years…
