This year, we’re soaring to new heights at a venue that truly lifts us, while giving back in a big way. Proceeds will support both the Runway to Reality Scholarship and the Waverly Community Chest, helping empower lives through art, education, and community care.

Come for the fashion. Stay for the impact.

SUNDAY

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
State Theatre of Ithaca

Born Troy Andrews, Trombone Shorty got his start (and nickname) earlier than most: at four, he made his first appearance at Jazz Fest performing with Bo Diddley; at six, he was leading his own brass band; and by his teenage years, he was hired by Lenny Kravitz to join the band he assembled for his Electric Church World Tour. Shorty’s proven he’s more than just a horn player, though. Catch a gig, open the pages of the New York Times or Vanity Fair, flip on any late-night or morning TV show and you’ll see an undeniable star with utterly magnetic charisma, a natural born showman who can command an audience with the best of them.

FLXGives!

It’s that time of year again when generous folks in our communities rally for an extraordinary burst of philanthropy!

“FLX Gives is a 24-hour online giving event designed to empower every person to give back to their community by supporting local nonprofits and the causes they care about… In 2024, $258,942 was raised through 2,405 donors benefiting over 102 nonprofits. This year, help us raise even more for local nonprofits and  causes close to your heart.”

I personally love this event that includes fun donation goals and prizes. Every year, I get a bit verklempt when a new record for the grand total is reached. Please join me in donating to your favorite local nonprofits!

I’m Back!

That’s right! It’s Amelia back at the helm of the newsletter again after a profoundly meaningful three months of maternity leave. It feels amazing to finally be a mother after many long years of challenges. My daughter is certifiably the cutest, and I’m proud to be her mom.

As a self-employed person, you’re on your own to put together parental leave. So, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Sean Lukasik for putting together weekly newsletters on my behalf and especially to David A. Scott Jr. for posting over 1250 events to keep the calendar bursting with fun things to see & do. Bravo David & Sean! Thank you both so very much!
